Lesley J Martin

Lesley has been painting in Ayrshire since the early 90's. Art has been a passion for her for as long as she can remember. She's self-taught and takes a lot of inspiration and creativity from life experiences and the natural environment that surrounds her. She's had a number of art sessions with two Ayrshire artists: Felicty Walker and Lou Washington - both of whom are a real inspiration to her.

Originally from a nursing background, Lesley gave up work to have her family...three little angels!! And despite having her hands full with them she has found the time to build a successful hand-crafted card business, concentrating more recently on wedding stationery. And whilst being very creative in itself, she is delighted to be able to spend more and more time painting.

Lesley's relaxed nature and light-heartedness can be seen and enjoyed in her paintings. She has a very distinctive style which encompasses a certain naivety with a real sense of the natural world. She describes her style as a tapestry of bold brush strokes and robust markings. She loves colour, texture and the freedom of movement within her paintings. She works mainly in oil, pastel and acrylic but some of her mixed media abstracts are real creative meusli bars!

Having recently moved to Muirkirk Lesley takes much of her inspiration from the untamed countryside which surrounds her whilst having her own studio/gallery in which to work and exhibit. If you'd like to visit her studio, please contact her directly.

Hazel Ferrie

Hazel always enjoyed art but chose a different career route entirely, working for around 15 years in the IT industry in London and finally in New York.

She moved back to Scotland in 2000 and started a business as an Image Consultant which put her natural talents and flair for colour to good use. Having her own business allowed her to spend more time on her painting and photography giving her the opportunity to flourish in both.

In 2006 Hazel embarked on two years of full-time study at Ayr College and successfully achieved her HND in Art and Design. Hazel firmly believes that she will never stop learning, and in addition to the more formal training she received at college she has taken art classes with artist Melissa Alley in London, life drawing classes in the SVA in New York and since being back in Scotland with Ayrshire artists Lou Washington, Felicity Walker and Michael Clark and Perthshire based artist Sue Harrison. Whilst in the US she also studied black and white photography, and has been introduced more recently to the world of semi-abstract photographic art by Jo Cound.

Her art is very special to her and she feels that her most successful pieces capture her love of colour and show depth and movement. Her style is still evolving, and she believes it will take time to distill the vast amount of knowledge and new skills she learned at college, but she is really proud of her achievements, and is excited to see what will emerge.

She hopes you will see the passion that she has for her work in both her paintings and her photographs.
